A race is 2 sailboats in the water...so said the PRO. But the Cape Dory isn't a racer, she's a cruiser!
Anyway, I splashed her the other day in our Club's Annual recurring competition for keel boats, and placed 3rd! Well, but there were only 3 boats competing too. And I was one of them. The other two were much larger, and faster, and could point into the wind closer.
Nonetheless, BaggyWrinkles did what she does well, she faithfully charges into the wind, splashing and slicing into whatever is ahead with youthful abandon. As I was also to take photographs of this keel boat race, I managed to snap the entire fleet in one photo. You will see in the photo below, this included revealing that at a certain point, it is easy to sail in the prone position with feet forward:
Well, perhaps this will change once the Dory splashes in the water with other Dories in June. We will be attending the Typhoon Nationals at the Rappahannock Yacht Club in Virginia. Not because we're racers, God forbid! We just want to network with other Cape Dory Typhoon owners and sailors about this kind of boat and the little things that only CD Ty's concern themselves.
